CMA CGM starts 27th Asia service for Rotterdam
The French shipping company CMA CGM, in collaboration with the Chinese line China Shipping, will be launching a new service ("FAL 4") between the Far East and Northern Europe at the beginning of July. Rotterdam will be the last loading port in Europe before the ships return eastwards. The service is the 27th container service for Rotterdam, which represent a good three quarters of all services between the Far East and our region. (For an overview of the services, please see a previous release).
The French will be deploying four newly-built vessels, each with a capacity of almost 9,700 TEU. China Shipping will also provide four units, only slightly smaller. The complete rotation of the service is Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Nansha, Port Kelang, Zeebrugge, Hamburg, Rotterdam and then back to Shanghai. The start of the service coincides with that of the peak season, during which cargo for the winter and festive season (clothing, shoes, tyres, electronics, toys, food, etc.) is shipped in. Later this year, two more 11,000 TEU CMA CGM ships will go into operation. A fifth service is planned for autumn 2009.
