Uzbekistan to build pipeline to pump Turkmen gas to China
Uzbekistan has started building a pipeline for natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to China, the Chinese news website Sina reported on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reports.
A joint Chinese-Uzbek joint venture has been established to construct and operate the world's longest pipeline, to run 1,801 km (1,119 miles) from Turkmenistan to the western border of China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Sina said, citing information from China's National Petroleum Corporation.
The cross-border gas pipeline is expected to be commissioned in late 2009 and will operate for a term of 30 years. The pipeline is designed to pump up to 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to China from Turkmenistan.
