Ferry sinks in Myanmar's Irrawaddy delta, 38 dead

A total of 38 people were killed when a ferry capsized and sank in the Yway river in southwestern Myanmar, the country's official newspaper the New Light of Myanmar reported Friday according to RIA Novosti.

The ferry, named "Myo Pa Pa Tun," had 82 people onboard and was headed to Myaungmya village, 151 km (94 miles) east of the capital, Yangon, along river Yway in the Irrawaddy delta region, which was struck by cyclone Nargis in early May

"A total of 44 passengers of the 82 have been saved and the remainder died," the daily said.

The cause of the accident is being established.
