Export value rose 28.2 per cent to $155.7 billion. Import value went 23.9 per cent up to $89.8 billion.
The European Union was Shanghai's largest trade partner. Bilateral trade with the EU jumped 33.1 per cent in value up to $55.3 billion, 5.2 per cent faster than the growth in the same period a year ago. US was the second largest with a trade value of $41.5 billion, up 15.9 per cent. Trade with Japan climbed 22.4 per cent to $34 billion. Trade with Asean increased 31.8 per cent to $24.4 billion.
Africa was the fastest growing among all Shanghai's trading partners. Trade with Africa soared 60.2 per cent up to $6.1 billion. The growth was 43.8 per cent faster year on year.
In May, Shanghai's trade value increased 35.6 per cent to $51.8 billion, 16.5 per cent faster than year on year and 11 per cent faster than the average growth from January to April.
