Maersk shuts down container depot at port of Mombasa
Maersk Kenya Limited has closed its Mombasa Logistic Container Centre (LCC) and laid off 123 employees, reported Kenya Business Daily.
Empty container handling has instead been contracted out to three local companies, the identities of which have not been revealed, said the newspaper.
Vera Kereko, the depot's commercial planning manager, confirmed the closure saying that the move was taken after the lease of the land, which belonged to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), expires in July 31.
