Throughput of Yuzhny port up 0.1% to 11.149 mln t in H1 08
In January-June 2008, throughput of Yuzhny port grew by 0.1%, year-on-year, to 11.149.6 million tonnes of cargo. In the reported period, cargo handling totaled 7.404.9 million tonnes (-3.4%, y-o-y). In the 6-month period, the port handled 639 vessels and 78,878 open-top wagons, the company informs.
In June, the port’s throughput amounted to 2 .061.1 million tonnes of cargo, cargo handling – 1 .286.3 million tonnes. In June the port handled 91 vessels and 10 ,829 open-top wagons.
Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep. As of today, Yuzhny is the second largest port in Ukraine in terms of throughput which is 20.698.6 million tonnes per year. The port has an outer anchorage for 24 vessels. The port’s berth line is 2.6 kilometers long with the depth from 12.5 meters to 15 meters. The port’s outdoor storage facilities cover 145,000 m2.
