Russian Railways to invest in Baikal-Amur Mainline
Russian Railways plans to invest RUB 63bn (approx. USD 2.71bn) in the modernization of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) until 2015, the company's press office reported today according to RBC. In 2008 alone, investment is expected to exceed RUB 3bn (approx. USD 129m), up 7.5 times compared to the previous year. In addition, the BAM railway will be renovated to carry heavy trains as part of the strategy of railway development until 2030.
