Ust-Luga port (Leningrad region) handles large batch of Toyota and Hyundai automobiles

A large batch of Toyota and Hyundai automobiles has arrived to a multipurpose transshipment complex Yug-2 of Ust-Luga port, PortNews IAA learnt from Company Ust-Luga, owner of the complex, which is currently unloading the cars.

The «Yug-2» Multipurpose transshipment complex is designed for transshipment of rolling cargoes, including new imported cars, container and general cargoes. After reaching its full capacity the «Yug-2» MTC will provide acceptance, storage and transshipment of 4.7 mln. tons of cargoes per year. The designed capacity of the motor car terminal of the Multipurpose complex is about 500 thousand new imported cars per year. The first start-up complex of the car terminal is designed for 100 thousand cars.

Ust-Luga port is situated practically at the border of the Russian Federation and the European Union. The deep water area of the port (16 m) together with the short ship channel (3.7 km) make Ust-Luga port the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of admitting dry-cargo vessels with the deadweight of up to 75,000 tonnes and liquid cargo carriers with the deadweight of up to 120,000 tonnes. The port will be the end point of the Baltic Pipeline System - 2 (BPS-2). The Bunkering Complex within the framework of BPS-2 is to be put into operation in 2012.
