Fifteen Russian sailors who were arrested in Spain last year on smuggling charges have been released from custody.
"On Friday, September 19, the Spanish criminal court rule to replace the jail term with a parole for 15 Russian sailors arrested in Spain last year on smuggling charges," a law firm called Yegorov, Puginsky, Afanasyev and Partners, told Interfax on Monday.
Together with their Spanish colleagues these lawyers are defending the interests of the Russian sailors.
"The sailors sentenced earlier to three years in prisons have already been released," the law firm said.
The 15 Russian nationals, including 13 crewmembers from the Uozas Aleksonis trawler and two crewmembers from the Tralmejster Mogutov trawler, were detained in Huelva on May 14, 2008.
The Russian sailors were charged with smuggling and "crime against the nation's health," the press release said.
