Sergei Forafonov also noted that labor performance and competitiveness of Russian shipbuilding industry stays at a low level. According to him, it takes Russian shipbuilders 1.5-2 times as much time to build a ship as compared with foreign yards while the cost of Russian vessels is 20-25% higher. OSK counts on western technologies when planning upgrading of the industry and improvement of competitiveness of Russian goods.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK OJSC) with 100% federal ownership was set up in 2007. OSK comprises three daughter companies: Open JSC «Western Center of Shipbuilding» (St.-Petersburg), Open JSC «Northern Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair» (Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region) and Open JSC «Far East Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair» (Vladivostok) as well as leading design bureaus. In 2008, net loss of OSK under Russia Accounting standard totaled RUR 37.014 mln with revenue amounting to RUR 40.169 mln.
