In January-August 2009, container throughput of Big Port of St. Petersburg fell by 30%, year-on-year, to 818,228 TEU including 114,864 TEU handled in August (-22%, year-on-year), administration of Big Port of St. Petersburg states.
As it was reported earlier, total throughput of Big Port of St. Petersburg fell by 21%, year-on-year, to 32.350 million tonnes of cargo including 4.82 million tonnes of cargo handled in August (-13%, year-on-year).
In the reported period, transshipment of oil products increased by 3% to 10.209.3 million tonnes including 1.693.9 million tonnes of oil products handled in August (+4%, year-on-year).
In the 8-month period, turnover of vessels in St. Petersburg port totaled 15,383 units (7,683 in and 7,700 out).
Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands in the mouth of the Neva-river, in the Neva Bay at the eastern side of the Gulf of Finland (Baltic Sea). The Big Port of St. Petersburg includes the mouth of the Neva-river, the Neva Bay, Kronshtadt and the complex of structures protecting St. Petersburg from flood (the dam).
