IMO Audit in Russia to start on September 28, 2009

Russia will start participation in Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme on September 28, Aleksei Klyavin, Director of the Department for State Policy in Maritime and River Transport, RF Transport Ministry, said at the conference "Beyond the crisis outline. New routes of water transport development" arranged by PortNews IAA. According to Aleksei Klyavin the Audit will help to reveal “narrow spaces” and develop measures for legislation improvement. 

As it was reported earlier, IMO team to audit Russian ports will be headed by a representative of Denmark. IMO Committee will audit Russian ports’ state structures and private companies to check conformity with norms and requirements of international conventions, codes and other IMO standards.

International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations.  The IMO's primary purpose is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping and its remit today includes safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical co-operation, maritime security and the efficiency of shipping.
