Danish shipping company Erria said its 34.1 percent owned subsidiary Saigon Shipping Joint Stock Company had agreed to set up a joint venture in Vietnam with sector player Svitzer, part of Danish oil and shipping group A P Moller-Maersk, Nordic Business reported.
The new entity, named Svitzer Vietnam, will provide towage services to container terminals, container lines and other shipping operators in the Ba Ria, Vung Tau and Cai Mep areas.
Svitzer Vietnam will operate a number of Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs, which will be fully capable of handling all types and sizes of vessels calling at the Cai Mep port. The company will recruit and train Vietnamese officers and crew to operate the ASD tugs.
Saigon Shipping provides shipping, ship agency, freight forwarding, logistics and other services in and around Ho Chi Minh City.
Svitzer is a towage company with operations in more than 35 countries and some 100 ports.
