Ukrainian Danube shipping company reduces its unprofitability

«Ukrainian Danube shipping company», Open Joint Stock Company, (the wholly-owned company owner is the state Ukraine) reduces unprofitability at the expense of river transportations.

According to information of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine, UDSC, the state shipping company under the Ministry's jurisdiction, improves the company's financial position. On results of January - July, 2009 losses reduced five times - from 65 million UAH (January - July, 2008) up to 12,5 million UAH. In dollar equivalent financial restoration is even more significant - the losses reduced from $8 million up to $1,5 million.

Positive processes have started since the 2-nd half-year due to use of the seasonal factor (the transportations of grain cargoes, combustible coal). Besides that demand for cruises across Danube was saved. As the result, as of August, the first profit on river fleet operation in amount of over $0,51 million is received (for comparison: the first half-year finished with negative financial result - $0,55 million of losses).

Making comments on situation, the Ministry has declared: «The UDSC river fleet has returned to profitable operation».

At the same time the growth of UDSC losses in sea cargo transportations proceeded.
