EU asks Ukraine not to enter new import restrictions

The committee of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on questions of restrictions entered in interests of the balance of payments, on September, 25 considered the removal by Ukraine of temporary extra import charge. The government of Ukraine on September, 8 informed the WTO on obligations performance - 13 percent extra charge on cars and refrigerators import is no longer in force since September, 7 this year. 

On September, 25 WTO committee, which recommended Ukraine in June to cancel extra charges up to the middle of July, approved Kiev actions. The representative of European Community expressed regret at extra charges have not been cancelled to the middle of July as Cabinet of Ministers has intended to do earlier, and asked Ukraine to withhold introduction of new import restrictions. As representative said, the EU will watch closely developments. 

It was informed before, that for 6 months action of 13 percent import duties extra charge Ukraine has lost some 0,5 billion UAH. "Import of goods, in particular cars has actually stopped. In January - July it was imported near 37,4 thousand automobiles, against the similar period of 2008 - 225,2 thousand. Falling six times", - the head of State Customs Service Anatoly Makarenko said.
