China's largest cold storage plant, the Sinotrans Shanghai Cold Chain Logistics Centre, which costs CNY230 million (US$29.22 million) to build, recently opened for business in the Xibei Logistics Park in the Jiading District of Shanghai. The cold-storage facility occupies an area of 66,667 square metres and has three storage areas operating at different temperatures, including one in which the temperature is kept at between zero and four degrees centigrade. The other two areas maintain temperature of minus 18 and minus 28 degrees centigrade. A company statement said the plant is the largest single cold storage warehouse on the mainland and the investment was made by Sinotrans Logistics Investment Holding Co., which is the logistics arm of the Sinotrans Group.
The logistics centre is equipped with a temperature-controlled loading and discharging platform and can handle up to 28 vehicles simultaneously. The Sinotrans Group said in the statement that it will establish more cold chain logistics centres in major economic zones in China to establish a cold chain logistics service network with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chengdu as regional hubs.
