According to the report, the addition of the new vessels, which came at a cost of more than US$500 million, has cut transit time on the route to 10 days, making it the fastest available China-US west coast service. The company is expecting to also save on operating costs with the addition of the Maunalei, as the vessel's oil consumption is said to be 25 per cent lower than the other ships.
Matson has deployed a total of five vessels on the service travelling from Ningbo, Shanghai to Long Beach.
