Port of Tallinn (Estonia) to decide on new lines opening to St.-Petersburg in 2011

As per the preliminary estimations, the port of Tallinn (Estonia) can open new lines to St.-Petersburg from 2011. It will allow putting into operation a new seaport in Petersburg, reported ABN with reference to port’s administration.

As it was announced, the port’s administration considers the possibility of opening new lines to St.-Petesburg due to increase of number of Russian tourists. Alongside the overall reduction of inbound tourism to Estonia, almost 68 thou of Russians visited the country within 9-month period of 2009 which is 15% more as compare to the corresponding period of 2008.

It is mentioned sea vessels fleet renewal and opening of new lines requires significant investments. The port of Tallinn took Euro170 mln loans at 3% interest (main creditor is European Investment bank) for 10 – 15 years in 2009. In 2009 the port of Tallinn received 416 thou of tourists (+10% year-on-year).
