According to the results of 2009, the 17% general decrease in transshipment and 22 % decrease in container turnover is expected in the Estonian container port Muuga. Such data was published by the Estonian railway authorities during the international presentation meeting in Odessa with participation of management representatives of railway lines of Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Russian Railway-partner.ru news agency reports.
Corresponding characteristics are included in the annual port plan. Thus, cargo transshipment is to be handled in volume of 1,5 million tons (1,8 million tons in 2008). Loading of containers is planned to meet 140 thousand TEU (result of 2008 – 181 thousand TEU).
According to the Estonian railway authorities, at the present moment the port is capable to handle cargo container ships with capacity of 4 thousand TEU. Loading performance with containers tends to reach 50-55 units per hour.
