Jakarta to prioritise dry port reactivation

The Jakarta government has prioritised the reactivation of several dry ports in West Java to avoid stockpiling at Tanjung Priok port, Jakarta, Bisnis Indonesia reported.
Vice Minister of Transportation Bambang Susantono revealed the several dry ports in question are Gede Bage Bandung Container Terminal (TPKB) and dry port in Jababeka, Cikarang.
Next week, he said, the department and the Department of Public Works would meet with seven industrial zone operators in Cikarang to reactivate the dry port in Cikarang.
Bambang added the meeting would draft a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to substitute for the old one.
"They previously have already had a MoU on the reactivation. We will review all of these and draft a new MoU to design the ideal route," he said.
In 2011, the flow of containers at Tanjung Priok port will reach 930 units of containers per hour, while the current accommodation capacity at the moment is only 600 containers. Under such a condition, the government considers it necessary to reactivate dry ports outside Tanjung Priok.
