St.-Petersburg authorities may apply to Russian FCS to suspend new customs regulations

The administration of St.-Petersburg may apply to the Russian Federal Customs Service (FCS) with to suspend new procedure of registration of the goods, transported by ships, the administration department report said.

The officials believe the new regulations of FCS, September, 15th, 2009 may have negative effect for those involved in foreign commercial activities.  The issue has been discussed at the meeting of Transport council of the government of St.- Petersburg to work out documents before December 17, 2009, so that the governor of St.-Petersburg could apply to the FCS to suspend new regulations, the city administration Committee for transport-transit policy said.

The new customs regulations could come into effect only after the customs checkpoints are dislocated beyond the ring highway, till the St.-Petersburg and Baltic customs office are reorganized.

It is worthy of note, as well the Union of the trucking companies, forwarding agents of the Northwest, as the Association of forwarding agents of the Northwest region had expressed their concern about possible negative impact for their busyness by the new customs regulations. They have applied to the government of St.-Petersburg, transport council to analyse the current situation for those involved in foreign commercial activity (forwarding agents, truckers, stevedores , warehouse business).
