STS/RLS Logistics has completed a project for the delivery and installation of the turbine and generator for Sredneuralskaya hydropower plant. According to the company's press release today gas turbine (300 tons) and generator (260 tons) were installed on the foundation of a new power generating unit of the HPP, located in the Sverdlovsk region. The project, Rustam Yuldashev, general manager of the company was quoted as saying, can be called a major achievement of the unique logistics operation of our holding company in 2009. The entire complex of difficult works had been organized by the offices of Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Aktau, Almaty and Perm of joint holding.
Back in March 2009 a Spanish engineering company, Iberdrola offered the STS / RLS Logistics, as the company to comply with the complex shipment operations, to take part in the tender for transportation an further installation of gas turbine and generator at Sredneuralskaya HPP. It was a challenge, Mr.Yuldashev said, to bring the expensive equipment, manufactured by General Electric, at that, an oversized very heavy cargo.
Realizing the complexity of the project, STS / RLS Logistics, with the help of experienced contractors, had made all surveying and engineering work. The project plan was approved by the timing and cost.
The project began in May 2009. We had to completely reorganize the way to the station. For the shipment operation scores of types of transportation means had been involved: water, road and rail. For loading and transportation of the equipment 2 parallel railway branch of the total length over 400m had been constructed in Perm city, Mr. Yuldashev said. We carried out a complete repair of the 450km line. Our company had ordered an equipment the turbine and generator could be loaded on transporters, a completely brand new built dock with a platform for the handling of the cargo on the river Kama in Perm. Such a huge cargo demanded design and manufacture of high-power loading facilities. For the first time in Russia for loading such oversized and heavy turbine and generator on the railway transporters two 250-ton rail crane have been used.
The shipment of such cargo requires a whole complex of measures to harmonize the movement of trains, water and transport. In the end, the Sverdlovsk railway authorities had worked out special timetable taking into account the passenger and freight trains.
The last stage of the project was the installation of the turbine and generator on the foundations of the building unit. To perform this task we used a powerful mobile Gentry system of capacity 1 thousand tons, which ensured the successful completion of the unique project by the STS / RLS Logistics at the end of 2009, the general manager of the company said.
