Customs clearance of vehicles below the environmental standard Euro-4 in Russia to be abolished in 2010

Customs clearance of vehicles below the environmental standard Euro-4 will be ceased in 2010. According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia., a new ecological standard Euro-4 will be implemented since January 1 st., 2010 in Russia.

In this regard, customs clearance of vehicles which do not meet requirements of eco-standards, will be canceled. The new rules will apply only to newly imported cars and do not refer to previously imported cars that have passed the customs clearance according to the rules, valid for that period of time.

Let’s remind that the special technical regulations “Оn emission requirements for automotive vehicles produced for circulation in the territory of Russia" approved in 2005, involves a step-by-step switch to the production of fuels that are not lower than Euro-5 class in 2013.

The above-mentioned rules apply in order to protect the population and the environment from automobile emissions of harmful (polluting) substances. In order to determine the environmental class (classification code describing the transport equipment, depending on the level of vehicle emissions) it is necessary to know the identification number (VIN), model and year. Such information could be found on the official website of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (www.gost.ru / wps / portal).

Since 2008 and up to date Federal Customs Service has followed the requirements of Euro-3 standard at registration of imported cars and Vehicle Certificate issuing.
