Ship with international crew sinks off Lebanon

A cargo ship flying the Panamanian flag with the crew of 83 sank off the Lebanese coast. The crew members are reportedly citizens of Russia, Britain, Australia, Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, Philippines and Uruguay. According to the Lebanese government press service, 20 people have been rescued, the search operation goes ahead.

Freighter Danny F II transporting cattle capsized and sank some 20 km off Tripoli port as a result of heavy seas. The ship was reportedly heading to Syrian port of Tartus from Uruguay. Shortly after the storm began, the crew sent a distress call, but due to rough weather, rescuers were unable arrive immediately at the scene.

Currently, several Navy boats, army of Lebanon and UN staff are participating in the rescue operation.
