Hutchison wins Sydney port contract

Hong Kong-based terminal operator Hutchison Port Holdings will run Sydney’s new container terminal at Port Botany when the facility is finished in 2012. Australia’s New South Wales government made the award Friday, giving Hutchison operations an $888 million facility, Hutchison’s 50th port worldwide.
Hutchison won the award over DP World-owned P&O and Patrick, owned by Australia’s Asciano Group.
Port Botany is Australia’s second-largest container port, and its container volume has grown for eight straight years, reaching 1.78 million containers in the year ending June 30, up 0.3 percent from the year before.
