China's Rizhao port throughput up 22.8 per cent to 170 million tonnes in Jan-Nov

While the global down turn has reduced shipping, the eastern Port of Rizhao has increased volume 22.8 per cent to 170 million tonnes in the first 11 months, making the fastest growing of China's top ports, reports Xinhua.
The Rizhao Port Group said throughput doubled from 84.2 million tonnes achieved in 2005 following the port's expansion more than three years ago. "Rizhao Port has created a core competitive advantage that can't be duplicated or replaced," said port chairman Du Chuangzhe said:
China's Coastal Port Layout Planning scheme has established Rizhao port's strategic position in the national transport of iron ore, coal, oil, grain and other bulk cargo, said the report.
In recent years, Rizhao port has expanded its service network to the hinterland and vast central and western regions including Xinjiang and Qinghai, while its throughput broke through 100 million tonne mark.
