The issued has been discussed at a recent meeting of Ministry for International and External Economic Relations of Sverdlovsk Region, the representatives of Ural transport and logistics companies with a delegation of the Finnish province of Kainuu, the regional administration said.
The Finnish province is part of the Barents region, which unites Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Republic of Karelia, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk Oblast and Komi Republic. The province has been cooperating with several Russian regions in a joint project Belkomur. The Finnish delegation includes logistics and transport experts as the Ural region is considered to be promising for shipping business.
Sergei Shavzis, regional Deputy Minister of Industry and Science and chairman of the working group for development and implementation of joint projects with logistics companies in Finland, highlighted the urgent need for direct container traffic between the Middle Urals and Finland. Such cargo transportation could be very beneficial and convenient, the press service said.
The issue is very important, says Ludmila Safin, head of Mission of the Finnish-Russia Chamber of Commerce in Yekaterinburg, since at least 50 Finnish companies have their business in the Sverdlovsk region. Effectively managed and competent transportation system can boost cargo turnover, Mrs Safin said.
The Finnish delegation expressed interest in further cooperation in the area and willingness to consider the organization of cargo route Kuovala - Ekaterinburg. The parties agreed to achieve certain results on the project by next March.
