Tallink Asks For Tallinn Port Fees Cut

Estonian shipping company TALLINK has sent a letter to Economy Minister Juhan Parts with a request for reduction of port charges levied by the state-run Tallinna Sadamad (Port of Tallinn), balticbusinessnews.com reports citing the company authorities.
The letter, signed by the deputy chairman Andres Hunt, reads, the company has managed to cut down it’s expenses, but this could be the first year of Tallinna Sadamad’s revenue fall.

The company said it had paid over 246 million crowns of the port charges over the past two years, tens of millions of crowns of other fees. "On the assumption of the need to further reduce of our costs, we ask you to reconsider port fees charged by Tallinna Sadamad», the letter reads.

The company offers a lower rate of charge at the port of Tallinn at 15% since January 1st, 2010.

Tallink authorities would not be willing to disclose the details of the letter. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Economy has posted it on its official site. As of now, the Ministry has responded to the letter, stating that it could not interfere into the business between the Tallink and stat-owned Tallinna Sadamad.
