The opening ceremony for construction project of future facilities complex for general cargo open storage is to be held at the berth N 9 of the state-owned "Yuzny (Southern) Seaport" (Odessa region, Ukraine) on 28 December 2009, the port press service reports. The complex will provide additional loading platforms in the port with railway tracks. The major purpose of the facilities complex is to ensure loading and reloading services, for acceptance, storage and shipment of various export goods, the press-service said.
First piles for the construction of the new complex were hammered on April 10, 2008. The project of the wharf complex construction was developed on the "General Scheme of the Sea Commercial Port "Southern" and" Program of the establishment and operation of national networks of international transport corridors in Ukraine" in terms of financing of the project by the state-owned company.
Southern Commercial seaport was founded in 1978. Located on the bank of Adzhalyksk estuary. It has capacity to handle up to 15 million tons of cargo a year. The port largely specializes in d/bulk, f/bulk, chemical, coal and ore and packaged loads. Port throughput in 2008 totaled 21 million 698 thousand tons.
