“Basic Element” Comp. has spent about 40% of investment funds for the construction of a new cargo port of Sochi

The largest co-investor of the construction of the cargo area of Sochi port at the mouth of the river Mzymta Basic Element company announced it has drawn about 2.8 billion rubles of investment funds for the construction of part of the port, Interfax agency reports citing the company authorities. The total volume of investments into the project "Port of Sochi Imereti" is said to be at 6.5 billion rubles. The company uses as well its own funds as the Vneshekonombank's loan.

The company has reportedly built two berths; three other berths are currently under construction. New equipment for the port including, four port mobile Liebherr cranes, several mobile cranes, forklifts and mobile front bunker berths for bulk cargo, have been purchased, said the BE company representative.

Cargo area of Sochi seaport spreads between the rivers Mzymta and Psou of Adler district of Sochi on the open coast of the Black Sea. It will have 8 universal berths: five berths for the reception of general cargo, three - for bulk cargo. Maximum depth at berths - 9,2 m.

The funds financing the construction of the port of Sochi were allocated by the government totaled at 9.2 billion rubles. Besides, the project is financed by “Basic Element” The general contractor building the port of Sochi Imereti is a company Transstroy (part of the construction group of "Basic Element").

The first two of the eight berths are to be put into operation by April 2010. These berths will allow accepting of various cargo, bulk cargo, and general cargo, necessary for construction of Olympic facilities.

The construction of all eight berths of the port is expected to be completed by December 2010. Then the port will be able to reach its full capacity - 5 million tons.

After 2014, according to the project, a boat basin is to be built here for 600-700 yachts, including special berths for mega-yachts and coastal infrastructure facilities. The marina will have commercial and recreational zones.
