Sovcomflot, a Russian shipping company intends to start its trading ships plying on the Northern Sea Route (Northern Sea Route) in the summer of 2010, Sergey Frank, CEO of the company said at his meeting with Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin on December 26.

According to earlier reports, the Board of Directors of OJSC "Modern commercial fleet" (Sovkomflot) at their recent meeting has reviewed the outcome of the implementation of "Guidelines for the Development Sovcomflot for the period until 2009" and endorsed a strategy of social development for 2010-2015.
Over the past five years, tonnage of Sovcomflot has increased threefold to over 10.4 million tons. The average age of the tanker fleet has dropped from 7.5 to 6 years. Sales volume increased more than threefold and in 2009 will amount to $1.23 billion. Carrying value of net assets has doubled - to $2,81 billion The size of dividend payments increased by fourteen times.
As a reminder, the Russian government has planned selling of 20% stakes of Sovcomflot by 2010 - at the turn of 2011.
