Transshipping complex for general cargo starts operating at Uzhny (Southern) port of Ukraine

“Uzhny” (Southern) Commercial Sea Port (Odessa region, Ukraine) has put into operation a new cargo complex for general cargo at N9 Berth. The first stage capacity of the complex is said to be at 1.2 million tons of cargo a year. The final throughput of handling complex will be 3.2 million tons per year, "Ukrainian News" reports. The project cost was 431 million hrivna. (approximately $53.8 million). Payback of the complex is 5 years. The length of the berth - 292 linear meters, the depth at the cordon is 15 m.

The authorities expect the investments for the second stage of the complex for the development of 25 hectares of territory with the construction of galleries, trestles, leading to the berths N7 and 9. The minimum amount of investments will be $80-100 million.

The state-owned port founded in 1978 is located on the bank Adzhalyksk estuary. The port’s handling capacity is up to 15 million tons of cargo a year. The company specializes in handling bulk cargo, chemical, coal and ore and packaged loads. Last year the port’s throughput reached 21 million 698 thousand tons.
