The construction of the terminal, Nornikel authorities noted, would last 22 months. The project includes complete replacement of all engineering facilities and services to the existing port areas, construction of shunting railway routes connecting the two sites and equipment of new warehouse areas.
The new draft of the terminal is designed for a capacity of 700 thousand tons of cargo a year. It is planned to use one berth (147 m with depths of 10.5 m), which is ready for operation. Since August 2009 the vessels are being handled at the berth in test mode. By December 2009 more than 40 tons of Nornikel’s own goods have been handled at the dock. At least 130 thousand tons are said to be transshipped next year, the company said. Two mobile "Lighter" cranes, purchased by Nornikel, have been reportedly delivered at the terminal territory from the port of Dudinka. Their installation will be completed by March-April 2010, the company said.
Besides, a check point is to be established in future at the Nornikel Terminal. The company said, it would be registering relevant documents in 2010. The Nornikel Group does not have a stevedore operator for service at the terminal. All operations of loading and unloading of ships are carried out by a port brunch of Murmansk transport unit branch of "Norilsk Nickel" Group.
