Hit by heavy snowfall FCT of St. Petersburg announces fees cuts and services, to reduce losses and delays

Due to heavy snowfall in St. Petersburg The First Container Terminal CC (FCT) announced since December 25, a special services mode at the port. The company is currently fighting with consequences of recent fall-out, trying to clear the territory of the Terminal, the press-service of "National Container Company (manager of FCT) reports. As of now, tons of snow complicate the movement of cargo handling equipment and containers shipping at the terminal.

"In order to avoid recent delays at the entrances to the port we have temporarily to reduce the number of slots for the registration of trucks to the terminal, with their further increase," the company said.
At the same time to minimize the losses of its clients, FCT has established a five-day storage for free of dry import containers cleared at customs from 25 to 31 December 2009. For refrigerated containers cleared in the same period, for 5 days from the date of admission the discount would be 50% of the cost of storage.

"As the difficulties in the terminal were caused not by failures of FCT, but force majeure, all container lines, as well as carriers and forwarders, we offer to accept the prevailing conditions of work as our common risks. We call for understanding and patience of all participants in the transport and logistics chain. We are able to cope with this unexpected situation" Andrei Bogdanov, Commercial Director is quoted as saying by the press service.

First Container Terminal (Saint Petersburg) is a leader on the market of handling of container cargoes in Russia, CIS and the Baltic, with its current capacity at 1.1 million TEU and with amounted capacity up to 1.6 million TEU per year.

National Container Company (NCC) is Russia's largest operator of container terminals, a top company on the market of stevedoring services. The general NCC Terminal container turnover in 2008 exceeded 1.7 million TEU.
