MMFP cargo turnover in 2009 grew by 36% - up to 255 thousand tons

Cargo turnover at Murmansk Marine Fishing Port in 2009 increased by 36% - up to 255 thousand tons of fish, from the year earlier. In December, the port handled 12 thousand tons of fish, or 1.500 tons over the same period 2008, the company press service reports.

Since January this year 255.000 tons of fish have been transshipped through the port, exceeding 68.000 tons over the last year’s volume. The port handled 1,027 fishing vessels, 13,145 rail cars. “These have been the best indicators for the last 5 years ", press service said.

Anton Artemyev, assistant general director MMFP said, commenting on the results, that the company significantly increased its revenues, with expenses cuts at 33.4 million rubles.

Mr. Artemyev said that this year “has proved that we are ready to increase our capacity. Under existing conditions, we can handle more than 30.000 tons a month. The port is fully prepared for the upcoming fishing spring season, we have already signed contracts for the purchase of new electric and other handling equipment."

Murmansk Marine Fishing Port is a modern enterprise of the Northern region, having state-of-the-art equipment. The company is largely engaged in handling of fishing vessels, fishery mother ships and reefers. The government has a 100% stake in the company, through the Federal Agency for Federal Property Management and "Russian Federal Property Fund”, specialized government agency of the Russian Government.
