GSP SA begins construction of Dzhubga-Lazarevskoe-Sochi pipeline from March this year

Grupp Servis Petroliere SA, a Romanian service company will begin construction of the pipeline Dzhubga-Lazarevskoe-Sochi from March 20, 2010, RBC reports citing Bruno Sifken, the GSP’s vice-president speaking today at a press conference with journalists. The company, Mr. Sifken said, as general contractor of the $290 million project, plans completion of the pipeline construction by the end of June, 2010.

He noted that construction of the 153-km pipeline ordered by Gazprom would provide supply at its first phase gas facilities in the region of Sochi, in the framework of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The final project phase involves its connection with the underwater trunk pipeline section ("Blue Stream" project).

Bruno Sifken also said that his company intends to participate in other advanced projects in Russia. The spring, GSP SA plans to submit bids for construction contract to participate in the Shtokman project. In particular, the company expects to win the bidding for the construction of legs for offshore drilling rigs. The preliminary cost of the contract is approximately $70 million.

Besides, GSP SA has been in talks with Rosneft over a ship building contract. According to possible $600-million contract the Rumanian company will built a scientific vessel that would be able to carry out research work in the regions with different climatic conditions, capable of transporting the necessary equipment to conduct surveying, underwater operations control, etc. It could be operating in the regions of Sakhalin and the Black Sea. This would add to another projected shipbuilding contract, now for Gazprom.

Bruno Sifken also highlighted that the GSP had been a partner in the project New Urengoy in the Arctic. He said the company has been negotiating with Rosneft and LUKoil on cooperation, adding the Black Sea is one of the most promising areas to boost oil output.

GSP SA is operating in Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia and other countries.
