Expert’s advice for Yuzhny port project, deeper berths to boost its throughput

Experts of Corporate Solutions Consulting ltd. who were visiting Yuzhny Commercial Sea Port (Odessa Oblast, Ukraine) said that building of 19-meter deep berths at the port should be a priority in the company’s development project, the YCSP press service said. The ChernomorNIIproekt engineers had confirmed the deeper port’s berth project is technically feasible.

The 19-m berths will allow the port handling at the new loading docks large 200-ton DW, ocean going ships and gain in additional freight volumes.

The experts’ estimates are expected to form the basis of the "Ukraine ports development project feasibility study”. The project involves a detailed analysis of the needs of Ukrainian ports for further priority areas of development. The project is funded by the European Commission for the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine.

The state-owned Yuzhny (South) Commercial Sea Port was founded in 1978. It is located on the bank Adzhalyksk estuary. The port’s annual capacities allow currently handling up to 15 million tons of commodities. It specializes in liquid bulk cargoes, dry bulked cargoes, chemical, coal and ore and packaged unit loads. The port’s throughput in 2009 totaled 17.838.400 tons.
