Oktyabrskaya (October) Railroad (a subsidiary of Russian Railways) invested 4.3 billion rubles last year in the project "Integrated Reconstruction of "Mga-Gatchina-Weimar-Ivangorod line and rail access at seaports on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland", the OR press office said.
The company statement said reconstruction of the railway approaches to the seaport of Ust-Luga was one of its most important investment projects.
In 2009, several projected Luga rail stations were built, including “Sortirovochnaya” station, “Neftyanaya” (Oil), “North”. The Volosovo, Kikerino and Elizavetino stations were reconstructed, the report said.
The Mga-Gatchina-Weimar-Ivangorod line is currently being under reconstruction. The completion of the two-phase project, including double-track railway hauls, overpasses and bridges, will boost the railway throughput to ensure gradually increasing volumes of freight traffics between Russia and the EU countries via the Port of Ust-Luga.
