Total volumes of containers through Eurogate, European container terminals in 2009 were 12.454.600 TEUs, a year-over-year 12.3% drop. The company statement said the throughput cutback was due primarily to the global economic crisis.

The container terminal in Hamburg posted a year-over-year 20.5% slump, down to 2.1 million TEUs. Overall container volumes in Germany was at 6.673.945 TEUs, a 18.5% cutback. Italy’s terminal reported a slight 9.9% decline, at 5.139.891 TEUs while output of Morokko terminal in Tangier jumped 6.8 times, 435.575 against 64.178 TEUs in 2008.
