Freight volumes via Russia - Estonia railways up 12%, to 19.8 million tons

The numbers include 18.4 million tones of exports, 640.700 tons of imports and 776.200 tons of transit commodities, the Russian Railways press release said. The RZD statement has been circulated recently to the press before the II International Regional Rail Business Forum "1520 Strategic Partnership: Baltic Region" to be opened on February 9th in Tallinn.

The statement said, bulk cargo volumes added heavily to the growth in freight traffic. The transportation of coal jumped as much as five times, up to 1.5 million tones, coke - to 3.700 tons, a 43% rebound, oil and petroleum products – 183.600 tons (+1%), timber cargo - by 4.900 tons (+12%), fertilizer - at 898.600 tons (+2.8 times).

The statistics for Russia and Latvia freight volumes also show an increase, up 1% (389.000 tons). The volumes amounted to 34.4 million tons: 32.5 million tones of exports, 530.300 tons of imports and 1.4 million tons of transit cargoes. The traffic growth there also was due to growth in transportation of oil products that added as much as 50 percent, 1.7 million tones (+25%) and ferrous metals - by 102.000 tons (+25%).

Export shipments increased by 1.4 million tones (+ 5%) including: oil - 2.1 million tones, a 34% rise, fertilizer – 9.800 tons, a year-over-year 100 percent surge, while transit volumes dropped 1.5 times (- 0.6 million tones), to 1.1 million tons.
