In January this year the port of Liepaja handled 140.400 tons of bulked cargoes, or 18.4% up from the previous year’s numbers. The overall bulks volume includes 131.500 tons of grain, a 34.6% growth, 113.800 tons (+1.8%) of mineral cargoes, with 73.600 tons of wood handled, a 74.4 percent surge . The port posted the largest rebound ever, 70.5% and 220%, in volumes of scrap metal and nonferrous metals. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargoes (oil and petroleum products) amounted to 46.500 tons (+140.9%).
In January 2010 110 vessels called at the port of Liepaja.
In 2009 Liepaja port’s throughput was reported at 4.38 million tons, or 4.6% up over 2008. The Port of Liepaja is one of three major ports of Latvia.
