Port of Tallinn posts its cargo volumes up 25.2%, to 3.1m tons this January

Freight shipments via Tallinn port of Estonia for January 2010 amounted to 3.113.800 tons, a 25.2% rise over the same month a year earlier. Containers volumes at the PT dropped by 8.2%, to 10.875 TEUs, the Port Authority’s statistics said.

The January report show liquid bulk cargo heavily added to the overall volumes as the port’s terminal handled 2.109.500 tons, a 4.5 percent rise from January 2009. The number of ship calls at the port is almost the same, 545 units, compared with the last year’s figures.

Port of Tallinn is the third largest Baltic port, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The Tallinn seaport comprises 5 so-called port areas: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. Throughput of the port in 2009 reached, on specified data, 31.597.000 tons.
