Lithuania wants PKN Orlen to stay

Chairman of the Seimas of Lithuania Irena Degutiene has met today with officials of the PKN Orlen Polish oil group, The Baltic Course reports. Recent reports on possible sale of the Orlen’s Orlen Lietuva (Mazeikiu nafta), a Lithuanian refinery to Russians triggered the meeting.

Mrs. Degutiene assured the Polish businessmen Lithuania would be willing PKN Orlen remained in the country. She noted she would advise the President of Lithuania Dali Grybauskaite include energy issues in the agenda of the State Council of Defense.

Earlier reports said the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite told Reuters Russia would be willing purchasing Orlen Lietuva. The interview followed her meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on February 10. The Russian Prime Minister said the deal might resume Russian export of crude oil to Lithuanian refinery. Meanwhile, Poland's PKN Orlen authorities announced on Wednesday they were not in talks with Russia or anybody else on the sale of its Lithuanian refinery.
