Regional Governor steps in to unplug freight flows via port’s terminals

Kaliningrad Governor Georgy Boos proposed to establish a realistic timetable to bring check-points in the port of Kaliningrad in accordance with new requirements. He called on customs and border control authorities to not ban hastily fright volumes through loading berths of several companies operating at terminals in Baltiysk.

The regional top official had to step in after FSB, FCS agencies regulating border and customs control at the checkpoint "Basin N3” ordered to freeze all cargo operations due to improperly defined boundaries of the port’s terminals territory.

"Administrative controls should not become a barrier for the regional economy", said Mr. Boos at a working meeting with heads of federal regulatory agencies and Kaliningrad Port Authority. "It is very important for us to have trouble-free operations been resumed at the port complex", Georgy Boos was quoted as saying.

He emphasized the recent administrative ban order at the terminal might lead to negative consequences for the social and economic development of the region, to heavy losses of the regional and federal budgets. "I would especially like to stress: for enterprises, located at the terminals of the port complex, the world market is the only source of raw materials. And without the possibility to operate smoothly for receiving and shipping goods, these companies will fail, thousands of jobs under threat", Georgy Boos said.
