Russian reefer in distress at Zhoushan port, supported

A Russian Snowmass reefer, radioed mayday near Zhoushan port in China. Fuel and food have been supplied to the ship, Vesti TV channel reports.

An earlier report said that the Russian-flagged squid laden ship arrived in China in late November. A Chinese consignee refused to accept the cargo, as it was defrosted during transportation. He appealed to the arbitral court that had ruled the reefer ship arrest, at the Chinese port.

Snowmass reefer had been staying of the Zhoushan port offshore since November last year. The vessel main engine was in poor condition, the ship’s 15 crew members had no light, food, other facilities. The crew was not allowed coming ashore.

Peter Osichansky, an inspector of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITWF) in Vladivostok said the situation with Russia's 15 crew members was to be solved soon.  He said that the Chinese side had agreed to release the crew to Russia, after the arrested vessel would be berthed at Zhoushan port and sold for arrears.
