Transport Ministry official says Russia to open its inland waterways for foreign ships navigation

Implementation of a set of regulative measures that would open Russian inland waterways for foreign-flagged vessels is meant for the period until 2015, Alexei Klyavin, Director of the Department of State policy in terms of Maritime and River Transport of the Russian Ministry of Transport said in his interview with PortNews IAA.

Russian Government has approved a range of measures, consisting of 3 sections: the normative legal regulation, the measures aimed at the development of inland waterways infrastructure and measures to improve the management of inland waterways. "It’s a current tendency to accord the international standards applied for sea and river vessels worldwide. This work is part of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, and Russia is participating in it very actively, concerning the establishment of river information systems, ensuring the safety of navigation, as well as the optimization of the transport process”, PortNews quoted Alexei Klyavin as saying.
