Neva-Metall to boost volumes to 60.000 containers this year, a twofold rise

Neva-Metall CJSC, operating at the Big Port of St. Petersburg, plans to increase container turnover in 2010, nearly twice as much, up to 60.000 containers, Severstal JSC statement said.

In 2009 transshipment of containers amounted to 34.000 containers, a year-over-year 30 percent surge, the company said.

The container volumes growth was due to expanding the list of containerized cargoes. In 2009, Neva-Metal exported iron ore pellets and started transshipments of outbound scrap metal in containers.

"In 2010 we expect to bring the volume of container handling up to 60.000 units, adding ranged commodities categories. A new warehouse built in November last year for empty containers may also contribute to the growth", said Igor Nechaev, the commercial manager of Cherepovets Severstal who also manages Neva-Metal business.

Neva-Metall JSC is a company integrated into Severstal Russian Steel.  Neva-Metal maintains and operates its loading berths in the 3rd area of the port of St. Petersburg. The NM’s is currently transshipping ferrous metal of Cherepovets Severstal, secondary metals by Severslat VtorMet Ltd., as well as handling containerized cargoes. In 2009 the commodities volume totaled 2.2 million tons.
