Russian Transport Ministry to regulate inland waterways traffic

Ministry of Transport of Russia has prepared a draft order setting out the procedure for supervisory control of traffic on the inland waterways of Russia (RIW). The document was prepared in order to ensure safety of navigation, according to the materials of the Ministry.

The draft document reads that all self-propelled ships (except small vessels) and towed (pushed) trains, regardless of their departmental affiliation, and organizational and legal form of the shipowner are subject to the supervisory control managing vessel traffic on the inland waterways.
The draft order (the document is posted on PortNews IAA) also establishes regulation and management of dispatchers operations and their schedule, interaction of the supervisory control with a ship captain.
