TransContainer starts operating Yakutia line

TransContainer started today February 24, 2010 regular railroad container traffic to the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The first container train, which departed from Moscow to Yakutia, consists of 39 fitting platforms of TransContainer, the press service of the company said.

The train is due at Berkatit station of the Far East Railroad on March 5th. Then the train will proceed to Aldan and Tommot of Yakutia Railroad. To deliver cargoes to the Berkakit station it will take 8.5 days, to Aldan station - 9.5 days, to Tommot – 10.5 days.

Two companies, Stock Company and Yakutia Railroad joined to have the container rail line launched.

TransContainer is a subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD JSC). The company reported a 17.6 percent drop in containers volumes for 2009, at 1.237.200 TEUs.
