The official said, because of the high water in the Neva River there might be some difficulties while passing for large passenger vessel under bridges, in particular, under Kuzminsk rail bridge in the Leningrad region. There might be an increased flow velocity of the river that, in turn, make it harder for ships passing under the Great Neva bridges within the boundaries of St. Petersburg, Alexander Alexeyev said.
Volga-Baltic is one of the major waterways of the integrated deep system of inland waterways of the European part of Russia. Freight traffic via Volga-Baltic Canal in 2009 declined by almost 10% compared to navigation in 2008, to about 16.5 million tons of commodities.
